|
|
What peoples thoughts on the Climax Challenge run by the Angling Star? I brought a copy yesterday (its a bugger to get hold of this side of t'hills) and it kicked off again as of the 1st March. The same bloke has one the last two years by a country mile with over 400 points.
The eligible species and minimum qualifying weights (for 2 points) are: -
Bream - 10lb
Barbel - 10lb
Chub - 5lb
Carp - 20lb
Grayling - 1lb 10oz
Dace - 8oz
Pike - 20lb
Perch 2lb 8oz
Tench - 5lb 12oz
Eel - 3lb
Roach - 1lb 12oz
Rudd - 2lb
Not sure about the qualifying area. Is it just Yorkshire?
Whats your thoughts on the most difficult target on the list. Also which would be the most achievable?
Have a think about it. _________________ damo

I think its yorkshire based although my mate "uncle" Geoff has a column in it as an ireland correspondant (although he is a proper tyke!)
The Bream and Eel targets I should think would be the hardest-although some crap anglers catch massive brean all the time by accident may dissagree!
But then a 20+ Pike is not easily come by and big rudd are not that common place either.
All worthy targets up norf!

i'd have to disagree with that marc finding waters with double figure bream around here is achievable as is the eel, in fact i know a water with snakes to 8lb i'd have to say the rudd would be the hardest on that list i cant think of anywhere round my area that holds many rudd and deffinately not to that size.
i can think of waters to achieve the others bar the rudd _________________ Kiss my spreader block!!!!!!!!!!

I did say carp anglers would disagree with the snotty!.............I do know of waters where they are achievable in hindsight, well into doubles and have been caught and labelled "nuisance fish!" but it is still no mean feat catching one by design
But looking at the list I stand by what I say in terms of species to size on the list and where we are geographically a bream into double figures I would rate harder than tench at 5+, carp 20+, barbel into doubles and chub at 5+ etc.
Eels too, increasingly hard to find good eel fishing especially big `uns and had been well documented that they may well be endangered. If you`re onto a water which holds good numbers of big snigs I`d suggest a sesh or two with you on it this summer!
Most achievable on the list though, a hard one. for me, I`d go for the Chub or the perch-these are where I`d be most confident.
Its a Good thread, everyone will have different opinions on this one me thinks!

i've never had a double figure bream had em to 9lb by accident but they run to doubles on a couple of waters round here, never really targeted them properly although i've the rods to do it as for the snigs biggest i've had tied me in allsorts of knots bloody bootlaces lol used to use dry newspaper to grab em back then _________________ Kiss my spreader block!!!!!!!!!!

Since starting this thread the hangover has gone so I can have a proper think about this and my thoughts are: -
The most achievable without loads of preparation would be the chub with most rivers holding fish of this size. Play the numbers game and one should show up.
Perch would be second as we seem to be going through a perch boom at the moment.
The hardest would be the rudd. Notoriously difficult to catch at the best of times but finding a water up north would be difficult. You hardly see them in the angling weeklies.
Like most things having the knowledge in the first place that would make the difference. I am sure that we all could turn our hands to any of the species above but knowing which waters to fish is the key to any sucess.
When you read any of the articles in publications like Coarse Angling Today etc. they all have one common. Nothing is left to chance with regards to the waters fished. _________________ damo

can't even remember last time i caught a quality rudd in fact off the top of my head i can only think of 1 water within about 6 miles that contains any rudd stacked with em but only to about 8oz and since last time i went they've put a fence up to keep me out grrrrrrrr could of just asked me i'd of packed up and gone lol, mind it might of helped if i'd of known who's pond it actually was i knew people fished it but just took a chance and was willing to pack up if asked.

Last time I caught good rudd was some time ago in Ireland.
We should try these targets between ourselves for a giggle, we should find a bait company to sponsor the event and we`re away............ideas?

Tench this summer. Roach until the water warms up.
Would be a good bit a publicity for NSA. Some of those targets are well within the reach of us mere mortals.
DVSG better watch there backs _________________ damo

Friendly competition.
First person to catch a qualifying fish.
Prize. The admiration of fellow NSA users.
First person to get a mention in the Angling Star
Prize. Fame and pissing taking on a monumental scale.
Up for it? _________________ damo

Seriously, I think we need a competition-first mugshot in the angling press wins a prize.
We should get that NSA branded stuff for our beloved sponsors too...............best not miss that trick!

Just to confirm that any published mugshots need to be for catching fish and not some kind of deviant bankside behaviour.
Come on then, sign up. We can start a thread under the PB's forum and keep a track of it all.
If anyone os lucky enough to meet the mark then it would be good exposure for NSA too. Everyones a winner. _________________ damo
