Thought I'd take advantage of this new topic to bore you all with perching antics this coming winter. Please feel free to comment as the more feedback the better.
I kicked it all off with monday this week with a visit to a small commercial near Chesterfield. Fished whole lobs on a size 6 tied direct to 5lb line Had some strange looks from the match lads on the pole but took 7 chub. Bloody freezing so went back on tuesday!!
Same again with maggots over lobs but fished two this time and had chub from the off whilst matchmen on the pole fishing single pinkie again couldn't buy a bite. 5lb straight through to a size 6 hook for me, no messin'. Everyone else had left by 3.30 but at 4.15 the chub had disappeared and a cracking bite landed me the fish below. Result. Crap photo but wanted to get back and was broke off on the next bite. Carp probably.
All excited I went back wednesday. No chub but at exactly the same time, about 4.15pm, another perch then broke again on 5lb line and double lobs. Again carp i think.
Things I noticed were that the perch only came on after about 4.00 only fed for a very short time of perhaps 30 mins. Also carp were feeding after dark dispite the freezing temps and huge baits on big hooks out fished small baits on tiny tackle. Strange that.
Back in Stockport and waiting for the Macc Canal to defrost.

It came in at 2lb 12oz.
A fish of around 4lb (reliable source) was found dead just a couple of weeks ago with another perch stuck in its throat. So only a baby really. _________________ damo

What about this weather.... perfect eh?
Now that all the festivities have calmed down back at it tomorrow. Back to the commercial but may go to a stretch of the Peak Forest Canal thats more local. If the weather is rough then the commercial may be empty so will wait and see.
I have 100 lobs sat waiting for deployment - can't wait. _________________ damo

Giles, if I had 100 of those sort of lobs I hardly have the time to go fishing!!
It was one of those 'why do I bother'sort of days. Blustery wind and cold rain made presentation nigh impossible and baiting a nightmare. Just one perch about 1.5 lb and a chub.
Try again down the local cut tomorrow. _________________ damo

Had another go today but nothing of any note. Just one at 1lb 10oz and another bumped off.
The water was coloured after the rain yesterday, never good for perch.
Hopefully will have another go tomorrow for a couple of hours. _________________ damo

Had another blast at the perch today at the commercial I have been going to. Two perch, neither over the pound, and the one below. A perch in fancy dress?? unfortunatley not.
Its all gone quite down there so need to find another water as a back-up. _________________ damo

Well its been a while but back on the perch on Saturday. The place I have been going has done 3's in the last two weeks to the very few who fish it this time of year.
Will give prawns a go as I have not ordered any worms _________________ damo
