As you can probably guess from my last posts i'm on a bit of a music drive at the moment. Since the baby has been hatched i'm doing some serious i-pod time to relax and chill out when I can. It's been a while since i've spent a few hours enjoying my music collection and downloading new tunes, both due to the lack of spare time and just....well..... not letting myself relax for a while and not able to do my own thing. If I had to give up everything tomorrow i'd just listen to music that's how long i've missed my music and i'm not joking. Most of the stuff i'm listening to at the moment is what you could call "Easy Listening" or not something to wake you up in the morning, or "motivational". It's all nice in the depths of my i-pod at the moment. Relaxing, quiet, resting, peacefull and reflectional music. A complete contrast to my usual "favourites" on my i-pod which does the full musical range, anything from Mozart to System of a Down. This is just a personal reflection of how i've missed my spare or "quiet" time and how much certain tunes remind me of the good and the bad times so far im my own life. At the moment i'm in a kind of limbo with a new responsibility in the form of my son Noah and the responsibility he brings. With the new responsibility comes (as a lot of you know) lot's of lost sleep and worries for the future. So again music has been my safety net. Keeping me with some level of sanity and relaxed as much as possible (thankfully Noah loves listening to music which is good when he needs a hug before he goes to sleep).

So you could ask where is this thread going? Is Giles just going to rant on forever?

As i'm writing this thread i'm listening to my favourite music and for once writing with no worries in my mind. Thinking both of the new year and fishing exploits of years gone. Both of these thoughts were brought on by the music I am listening to at the moment.

So I ask.......what are you listening to at the moment or what tune or music makes you feel good or makes you relate to a good time fishing or not?

Giles.

P.S. Why are radios banned at most venues? A tune or song brings back so many good memories. Catch or no catch hearing the same tune will take you back to that venue again a thousand times in your head. Sorry for making you read all of that Rolling Eyes

Until recently for me (being 32) it has always been the early 90`s baggy/madchester thing with the Roses being the favourite, but do love most of the others and associated people such as The Charlatans, Ian Brown, Mondays etc, etc!
Also the "Britpop" era Particularly Primal scream and Supergrass and those.
But me and the boss are passionate about live music and have been lucky enough to see most of our favourites (Ian brown 5 times, Charlatans 4 times.........) but this does spoil you and now my tastes have changed even on everyday listening as i need now a full on ear bleeding, trouser wetting, jaw dropping spectacle and now my musical preferances stem from these!
The first one that did this to me was The White Stripes and then it was Pearl Jam and then Muse. Ever since I saw them for the first time, they are constantly played in the van, the ipod, computer!! sad perhaps but without doubt the best live act in the world and every album is epic with massive rock sounds bounced off beautiful classical sounding symphonies!
Highly reccomended is Absolution album, Black holes and revalations and Origin of symetry but some of the tracks on Showbiz are very good(unintended is stunning!)
TRY IT!
But at the moment I`m getting into a bit of radiohead (not enough to depress me though!) and Jeff Buckley

Knowing me though this will change after this years festivals! RATM at leeds?!

What do you all recon to Newton Faulkner? I've just downloaded his new album and it's 99% covers but in my view he does every one of them justice or actually does them better than the original. Top album and well worth the steal from the interweb.....I mean purchase from HMV Very Happy

Usually do a festival every yr and if you`ve never done one, they are BRILLIANT!- a weekend wasted is not a wasted weekend!
was deciding what to do this yr as heard that this yr was gonna be RATM, Metalica which would be amazing along with the killers headlining leeds/reading................should be good, problem is its full of kids now as a finishing a levels treat which spoils it with all those weeners about!
Then Glastonbury has never been done, so should do that, but too far and usually p*sses it down.
Did Isle of wight last yr whsich was really good.

But then V headliner has been anounced today and its gonna be Muse, no brainer for me then!

V it is, tickets permitting for the greatest band in the world!
