After about 7-8yrs absence, today I took my Pike rods to Wintersett, mainly for old times sake.
Wish I hadn`t!
Nothing much has changed physically, still choked with weed, still need to launch baits as far as possible, still has some of the most hardened carp anglers known to man!
Problem I had today among a long list of personal disasters! was that is now run by(use this term loosely!)Leeds and District Amalgamated.
Having not been for a bit I was on t`internet looking for whats what and I read that tickets on the bank-WRONG!
the old dude who used to buzz around on a moped and take what he felt like from you for his beer money and let you do what you like is long gone! you now have to go to Ryhill Spar (which is now a Costcutter!) and get one which taday meant packing up driving up to the village and coming back, for 4squids.
3 rods are permitted i then read-WRONG (officially)however I hear Mr Bailiff turns a blind eye to this, indeed all todays carp anglers were using 3.
I would not bother about this place as a Pike venue, i saw nothing in the way of small fish and the crap anglers were hardly encouraging. However if you fancy some hardcore crap fishing which would probably be very rewarding if you pulled it off, then thats another matter. the lads on it today were the same faces from years ago- so it must be a hard habit to break or it does something to you!
I also hear that it is good tench fishing and I had one roll next to my float today (mid october-WTF?)
Be warned about taking your car around the far side too, aside from the regular Mondeo barbeques and it is a famous "dogging" hotspot, ahem! apparently (Site admin may start planning a campaign there now! ) I got thunderbird one stuck in a ditch left by 4x4`s churning it up when its been softer.
I did blank and had no runs, nor did i see anything encouraging. I may have a stab at the tench next summer but thats about it for me i`m afraid
