right i was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on where abouts to catch my first proper barbel from the wharfe this coming summer, i've fished boston top and bottom strecth a couple of times last yr for grayling and seen what look like some cracking pegs but other than that i'm a bit lost when it comes to barbel.

i dont really want to go to the trent and sit behind carp rods thats why i've got myself a heavy duty feeder rod after all a yorkshire barbels a proper barbel Grin

any tips advice or swims recommendations will do

I understand areas around wetherby and thorpe arch, also boston spa and taddy all have good reputations, I`ll have a word with my mate who usually knows his rivers.
Problem is Barbel anglers are like a secret society!

Thought of the Nidd?

iu've not really done much river fishing at all bar chubbing on the aire and a bit of grayling fishing on the wharfe, i'd like my first proper bertie to be from the wharfe just because i think its a beautiful river

Calling Barbel angling a secret society is a bit rude Mark. Damo, Barbelreaper and myself will all put you on the fish if you ask nicely and via PM (so it's a bit secret at least).

Mart if you want to fish a river with a possible 12+ Bertie right on your doorstep let me know. Minimal tackle with the buggers jumping on the hooks.

Bertie Social anyone????

You all up for a "FREE" fishing Bertie session? I know Mart is well up for it (thanks for the PM Mart). Stretch is also good for soaking dead fish too Big Smile .

sounds like a plan for end of the river season farewell.

what kind of lures will i need for these "berties"?

If they`re not on the lures, may well need pointing in the right direction in terms of bait etc, its been a while!

Forgot to mention. Life jackets are compulsary as the local shandy hut is only 100 yards away from the first peg Grin also it's one of the few Yorkshire rivers to have rapids and a quick escape to Holland.

Basically you wouldn't want to fall in.

I'd fancy a crack before the end of the season. Not tussled with a bearded torpedo since June when I fell in and twisted my knee. Jerkit Dangerous game this.
